Ads For Authors Case Study: Young Adult Paranormal

Three years ago, I was on track to make a full-time living with my writing. Then…life happened, and my writing career was thrown off that track. I spent the intervening time struggling to write at all, much less make money with my books.

By August 2019, I was earning less than $500 a month, despite having published a dozen books across two pen names. That’s when I finally decided I needed to invest in The Publishing Mastermind Course (PMC) and Advertising for Authors.

When I reached out to Rebecca, she made a couple of other suggestions that helped me get my writing back on course, too (finish that series that had been so promising in 2016, invest in some better covers, advertise more and wiser.)

I’m still working through PMC and using what I learn as I go. But I devoured Ads for Authors and started using the advertising techniques immediately. I had already learned Rebecca’s techniques for running BookBub ads from an earlier course and knew the ads I ran there were responsible for what income I still had coming in—and I knew I needed to up my Facebook ad game next.

Before I took Ads for Authors, my cost per click was awful. No, really. Look how bad.

Although most of my ads’ CPCs weren’t quite that terrible, implementing the techniques from Ads for Authors made an immediate impact. 

My cost per click was instantly cut in half (or more). It went from an average CPC of $.40 down to $.15—and I’m still refining that!

But more significantly, my income doubled in a month. It’s set to double again next month. And that’s before I’ve released any of the new books I have coming out in the next year, so it’s all backlist sales.

Because I now know that I really can make a living with my writing, I’m excited about my writing career in a way I haven’t been in several years. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
