What Most Author Coaches Won’t Tell You (And Why It Matters for You)

First, a little background on me to give some context.

My name is Rebecca Hamilton, and over the years I’ve been blessed to hit the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists multiple times. I’ve signed agents, landed film deals, hit the Top 100 on Amazon, had $40k royalty months, and earned six figures a year with a single series, more than once.

Now before you roll your eyes and think, “Good grief, is she just bragging?” let me stop you right there.

I’m telling you this because… none of it matters for you. You don’t need me to make money on my books. You need me to help you make money on yours.

The Truth About Many Author Coaches

Here’s what most author coaches won’t tell you:

A lot of them are still focused on building their own writing careers. That means:

  • Their courses disappear or go out of date
  • They don’t offer guarantees on results
  • They can’t give you consistent one-on-one support

Why? Because they’re busy with their own books, not yours. But if you’re paying someone, shouldn’t you be their top priority?

Why Great Coaches Put Their Clients First

Think about it:

  • Phil Jackson didn’t try to win championships while coaching Michael Jordan.
  • Angelo Dundee wasn’t chasing boxing titles while training Muhammad Ali.
  • Bill Belichick wasn’t quarterbacking while coaching Tom Brady.

They weren’t splitting their focus. They were dedicated to their players’ success. That’s why, after years of balancing my own writing career with coaching, I made a decision: authors come first.

Sure, I can still “turn it on” and hit a list (I proved that a few years ago when I made the USA Today list again just to show I still could). But that doesn’t help you.

What helps you is me putting that same energy into your catalog, your career, and your results.

Why I Chose Coaching Over Chasing Lists

Here’s something most people don’t realize about me: writing is mentally exhausting for me. Coaching, on the other hand, energizes me.

Why? Because almost every day I get to help another author hit a milestone, whether that’s their first $1,000 month or a $100,000 year. That high never gets old.

What You Should Ask Before Hiring a Coach

So if you’re looking for an author coach, don’t just get star-struck by their success. Ask them:

  • Can you show me dozens of authors you’ve helped get to your level (or beyond)? For example, you can see our client's results and success stories here.
  • Do you guarantee results (like our 3xP Program does)?
  • How many hours a week do you give your clients, and does that come at the expense of your own writing time?

Because if you’re paying someone, you should be their priority. Period.
